when I give my chimp a hard IP address and disconnect it from the network, it won't startup anymore

I cannot replicate your problem. i advise you to contact Highlite directly.

The console has had a rather long timeout for the network Setup. So it will start, but may take about 2 minutes. We are looking into this issue.

We reduced the network timeout for the next release to 20s.
