Connecting Chimp to Capture
#1
Hi!
Have someone tried yet to connect the Infinity Chimp 300 to a visualizer software, like Capture? If yes, which is the easiest configuration to begin?
I'm going to use it to program a show and I would like to ask you before, because it's the first time I connect the Chimp to another device.
Thanks.

Hi Matteo,

during the Chimp trainings at the Highlite office, we are using Capture as visualizer.
this is working great if you do the settings correctly :-)
first of all make sure to setup the network correctly so the 2 devices can communicate with each other.
In the Chimp setup menu, configure the IP and subnet mask in the network settings.
the IP ranges for Artnet normally is a 2.x.x.x or 10.x.x.x range
So for example use IP 2.0.0.10 and subnet: 255.0.0.0 for your Chimp.
then configure your computer network to an IP address within the same range.
so for example 2.0.0.11, subnet must be the same: 255.0.0.0

now both devices can communicate with each other.

next step is to make sure that the patchlist from your fixtures within your show is the same as the patch in your Chimp console.
last step is to enable the Artnet on the console,
this can be activated in the input/output setup menu of the Chimp.
please tick the enable checkbox and set the desired artnet universe.

Capture should automatically recognize the presence of an Artnet transmitter (the console) and use this to display the correct state of your show.

hope this info helps you to get your show running.
Feed your Chimp, Keep Calm or go Banana's!!

Best regards,  Ron

Just a question to connect the chimp console with a pc, you have to use a straight ethernet cable or cross?

Hello All,

Is it possible to connect Chimp on PC to Capture that is running on the same computer? If so, would it work the same as connecting a physical console with an IP Address?

Cheers,
Michael.

Hi Michael,

No, this is only possible if a Banana-Wing is connected, the Wing will release 2 Artnet-uni's..without a Wing connected there is no
Universe-output.

greetings,
Angelo

Is there a step by step instruction on how to connect a chimp 300.g2 to capture and get it to display your fixtures? There doesn't seem to be a way to add fixtures in capture (database is downloaded).  When connected it can see my DMX universes but that's as far as I have got.  Is it possible to have capture installed on the console like Avolites?
